Colour me perfect: choosing a shade of lipstick that’s right for you

When it comes to foundations, we create such a fuss over choosing the right colours that perfectly match our skin tones, but selecting the colour of your lipstick is just as important. Not only can you drastically change your entire look with the switch of a lipstick colour, from head-turning Hollywood glamour reds, to playful daytime pinks, you can also make the most of your natural features with shades of lippy that compliment your skin tone.

Here’s a little advice on choosing a lipstick colour that will work best for you. Never again will you feel daunted at the sheer selection of shades you can choose from at the cosmetics counter!

Fair skin: fairer skin tones should stick to the lighter side of the colour spectrum and be especially careful not to stray too far from natural lip tones, otherwise your lip colour will just end up looking rather extreme. Opt instead for nudes and pinks, and spice it up a little with light coral tones on warmer days.

Medium skin: medium (or olive) skin tones are in for a treat as there are a range of colours to choose from. Pinky rose colours are great for Spring and Summer days, with mauves and berries adding a more sultry and sophisticated look for colder months and evening events. Bright coral is another warm and playful shade that compliments and brightens medium skin tones.
