When it comes to my skin, I like to keep it simple. There are so many lotions and potions out there
that claim to work overnight miracles on my face, but the truth is, establishing a simple and regular
skincare routine is the only way you’re going to give that skin of yours the VIP treatment it needs to
look clear, radiant and youthful. Read on for expert advice on keeping your skincare routine simple,
but on point!
Daytime
Cleanse

The most important thing you can do for your skin is to cleanse it first thing in the morning. By
cleansing your skin in the mornings, you’re washing away any excess sebum and dead skin cells
your body would have shed throughout the night, unblocking pores and giving you a fresh base to
begin with.
Protect
Before applying makeup, or moisturiser, I’d suggest applying a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of
15. Sunscreens help to protect the skin from the harshness and damage of UV rays emitted from
the sun. If you want your skin to stand the test of time, use a sunscreen on a daily basis.
Moisturise

Next, it’s really important that you moisturise your skin, even if it’s naturally oily as moisturising
helps to keep your skin cells and pores in balance. If your skin is naturally oily and you stop using
moisturiser, all that will happen is that your pores will go into overdrive and produce more sebum
(oil) to compensate for the lack of moisture in your skin. You really don’t want that happening, do
you?
If you don’t have the time (or patience) to apply a separate SPF and moisturiser, kill two birds with
one stone by nabbing yourself a moisturiser with built in SPF (what will they think of next!).
Now that you’ve got your base covered, you can start building up your makeup. It really is that
simple!
Night-time
Cleanse
The golden rule to beautiful looking skin is to always remove your makeup before going to sleep.
Do so by using a makeup remover before cleansing. If you’re having one of those days when you
just want to roll into bed and forget about the world, keep a packet of face wipes on your bedside
cabinet and wipe your face down with a wipe before hitting the sack!

Next I’d suggest applying a serum. Serums are a great way to enhance the appearance of your
skin while you sleep. Whether your serum is targeted at firming the skin, age spots, or fine lines
and wrinkles, this light product should always be applied before your moisturiser. Just remember,
light product first, heavy product next.
Follow up your serum with a moisturiser. I’d suggest something a little heavier than your daytime
moisturiser for the evening. Opt for a cream, as opposed to a lotion, one which has anti-ageing and
restorative properties.
Lips

Eight hours of sleep means eight hours of not drinking any water, which may leave your lips feeling
dry and chapped. I’d suggest applying some lip balm just before putting your head down and
drinking a big gulp of water too. Keep a bottle of water by your bed so you can take a sip of water
at night if you need to, this is especially important during the warmer (and often stickier) summer
nights.
