Beauty Essentials: Festival Makeup Survival Kit

Festival Makeup

I won’t tempt fate by daring to saying that Summer is officially here, but festival season is definitely just around the corner! Below is a list of my personal cosmetics favourites that I always bring along with me to festivals.

Hand sanitiser

Festivals are dirty places with gross communal toilets and a general lack of sanitation, so I suggest keeping a hand sanitiser on you at all times. Not only do hand sanitisers kill most common germs, there’s no need to rinse them off, which can be a godsend when you don’t have a bathroom nearby, but you desperately need to clean your hands. They come in handy compact bottles too, so you can keep one on you at all times.

Facial cleansing wipes

I don’t want to risk sounding like a broken record, but… festivals are dirty places with gross communal toilets and a general lack of sanitation! There are times when you’ll be left queuing for ages for clean running water, so if you’re really desperate to clean your face (or even your body), it’s definitely a good idea to buy some facial cleansing wipes before you head out to the festival.

A statement bright lipstick

Forget trying to apply a full set of makeup in a stuffy tent with a compact mirror and opt for a statement bright lipstick instead. A bold red will instantly brighten up your face and put focus on your lips so you don’t have to bothered with much else!

Pencil eyeliner

A decent pencil eyeliner is the way forward when it comes to festival makeup as liquid liners are just too fiddly and tend to smudge much quicker than pencils do. A colourful eyeliner is another fuss-free option for brightening up your face when you don’t have time or patience to apply eye shadow.

BB cream with SPF

Why apply a separate moisturiser, sun screen and foundation when you can knock three birds with one stone by taking a BB cream with you? BB creams are also much lighter than foundations, making it the perfect option when achieving that fresh-faced festival look.

 Body shimmer / glitter

Because it’s a festival and you should be having fun! Don’t just stick to glittery eyeshadow, go all out and apply shimmer to your face, arms and hairline too.

Bronzer

A bronzer is always a good idea. Learn how to make the most of your bronzer this festival season by checking out my previous blog post, where I give simple steps on how to apply bronzer like a pro.

Blotting papers

Blotting papers might sound a bit old fashioned, but those of you with oily skin will really appreciate carrying a pack of these babies around with you at all times to help keep shine at bay.

Waterproof mascara

Nobody wants to end up with runny makeup at a festival, so the best advice I can give you is to keep your makeup to a bare minimum. If you really can’t walk out without putting something on your eyes, opt for a good quality waterproof mascara that’ll provide you with run-free cover whether you’re at muddy Glasto, or beach side Sonar Festival.
